It is a new module that an LTE Cat 1 single-mode modem and a GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) includes -Positionierungstechnologie designed specifically for IoT and M2M devices. LARA-R3121 is supplied 26 mm in small LARA LGA form factor of 24 x, which is ideal for compact IoT devices. This standardized housing permits simple and automated production. It is pin-compatible with the LARA-R2-series of u-blox, the multimode LTE Cat 1 with 2G / 3G fallback support. The module represents a first milestone in the long-term strategy of u-blox to build modules based on the LTE modem technology platform UBX-R3, a company internally developed specifically for IoT and M2M, flexible, software-defined modem architecture.
Customers benefit from in-house development
The main modem, positioning and module components of LARA-R3121 are developed internally. For a full clearance for innovative functions is given which ensures the end-to-end security and the full control of product quality. Since both the modem and the GNSS technology are u-blox own developments, developers can also be a first-class technical support on offer.
LARA-R3121 has the FOTA function, which enables customers to deliver firmware updates “over the air”. Ready for LTE World
As exclusively for LTE designed single-mode module, LARA-R3121 makes use of the fact that LTE networks everywhere disseminated. This products require increasingly rare fallback to 3G or 2G, so not removed essential components and thus cost and power consumption can be reduced.
The maximum data throughput of 10 Mbit / s downstream and 5 Mbit / s upstream of LTE Cat 1 provides data rates that are sufficient for video transmission in good quality.
